Tshwane Metro and Cape Town

by Gerhard Papenfus

The cities of Cape Town and Tshwane Metro are blessed with outstanding mayors.

No wonder both these mayors, and their leadership, are faced with severe challenges instigated by destructive forces set out to destabilise these cities.

The challenges currently faced by the political leadership in both Tshwane Metro and Cape Town are of an extreme nature. Although the demands confronting the leadership of these two cities differ, both are faced with not only unreasonable demands, but demands they simply cannot afford to meet.

Both these cities face adversaries which are hell bent on causing destruction and chaos in order to get what they demand. In all of this, the national government is absent. In fact, I will not be surprised if national government is revelling in the predicament of these two cities.

What is currently transpiring in Tshwane Metro and Cape Town is a microcosm of what may happen the day the ANC loses power. It is most likely that the ANC’s loss of power will result in them attempting to make South Africa ungovernable.

While all of this is playing out, our role as the inhabitants of these two cities is to be patient with the inconveniences we may face, and to support the political leaders while they stand firm for a better outcome.

If they give in now, making a stand at a later stage will be exponentially more difficult.
